L-citrulline - An Additional Boost To Nitric Oxide Production
L-citrulline is another amino acid that closely resembles L-arginine. We get citrulline from many of the same protein-rich foods and also in melons. It is especially important in our body's production of nitric oxide because of its synergistic relationship with arginine.
When you combine L-arginine with citrulline, nitric oxide production is increased. There is a unique relationship between these two amino acids. It used to be thought that our bodies could not produce L-arginine, however, recent scientific research has shown that arginine can be produced through a synergistic process with citrulline. L-arginine present in cells is converted into nitric oxide by way of the enzyme NO synthase. The byproduct of this process is the creation of citrulline. This byproduct, along with any additional amounts of this amino acid obtained through food or supplements
is then converted back into L-arginine, which further increases your nitric oxide production.
It is extremely important when considering an L-arginine supplement that one of its components is citrulline. Many supplement products for L-arginine do not include citrulline, which would not allow you to receive the optimal benefits possible from a supplement designed to boost nitric oxide production. There is an increasing amount of research evidence confirming that the combination of L-arginine and citrulline to boost nitric oxide production, helps to protect or restore your cardiovascular health.
